Workout Status....

Since the beginning of the year I have been doing lots of different things. I strained my hamstring in January sometime I believe. I took a lot of time off working out in December because I was sick. There was no specific moment where I felt like my hamstring was strained. I noticed that anytime that I walked, it bothered me and I remember one specific run where it was really hurting me but I just pushed through it thinking I was just sore.

I have continued to play soccer once a week for about a year now. Until the last couple months, I had never scored a goal but I have scored two now which is super exciting. The team is a Hispanic league so everyone on the team speaks Spanish except me even though I'm Hispanic so I feel that can be a challenge sometimes when the coach is talking to me and I don't understand. I love my team though and we have a lot of fun. I have taken a little time off here and there for illness but for the most part have consistently played. Not this last season but the season before that we took first in the A division and B division so they give out a big trophy for both divisions but the A division got individual medals as well. I was only playing on the B division because only so many players can play on both teams. Last season we only had one team and took 4th.

In April we had a family move down the street from us that were into Crossfit. I met them and started going over there to workout with them. It was a lot of fun and Jordon & Marie are Awesome! Their backyard is where I first started to learn the kipping pullup. In may, Jordon & Devin (his best friend), opened there own Crossfit location on Baseline between Mesa Dr. & Country Club. It's called Crossfit GTO. We went to the grand opening and I was going occasionally on Saturdays.

The first Crossfit gym I was a member of was Tribal Crossfit in Chandler. I got the membership off of Groupon & it was right by the gymnastics job I had this summer. I enjoyed my one month of workouts here but there were a few things that weren't my favorite. 1. We never did any running or cardio in a sense as part of our workouts. 2. The classes were often too big. 3. The coaches were not encouraging during WODs (probably due to the large classes). 4. No gym records were posted for me to have a goal to reach or beat. It was a good/convenient place to workout at that time. 5. There is no free workout on Saturday's to bring friends. Two cool things I learned was how to do a handstand push up with a band and climbed a rope for the first time in I don't know how long.

The day after I finished at Tribal Crossfit, I bought a Groupon member for Crossfit Solution which my friend Andrew started over a year ago. I had been there to workout several times. Andrew and I worked together at Pure Fitness and TI Fitness. Several clients from those places workout here so its fun to workout with friends and it pushes me harder. Crossfit Solution is where I finally mastered the kipping pull-up (Thanks to Tommy) and learned kipping handstand push-ups (thanks to Andrew). Some of my favorite things here are that they post the top scores on WOD's and exercises for everyone to see and be challenged by. I love how encouraging and helpful they are. They offer a free Saturday workout. One thing I dislike is how much of a hard time they give you when you're late. I'm fine with doing burpees for being late but don't like everyone making a big deal about it when it's sometimes out of my control.

After working out at Crossfit Solution for a while, I was having some schedule conflicts and started attending Crossfit GTO once a week. Remember this is the place owned by my neighbor Jordon & his friend Devin. My goal is always to get the best score as a woman, do the WOD as prescribed and beat Jordon. I started consistently attending more in September. This is where I first clean & jerked over 100lbs. and did my first assisted muscle up. I also ripped my hand open for the first time here doing pull-ups. I also beat Jordon in a workout called Tabata Something Else on Sept. 23rd. It was a great day! Some things I love here are the free Saturday workouts, I'm working out with Awesome friends, they have posted 5 levels that we can test to move up to. I was currently work to meet standards in Level 2. One thing I dislike are that records for WODs and exercises are not posted to keep me challenged in the gym.

All things were going really great and I was progressing until I broke my arm on Oct. 2nd. Needless to say the only working out I've done is walk some with the box and use extra energy to do everything with one arm. More to come about my broken arm on the next post.

Career status....

I haven't posted since January. The post before my last I wanted to change my blog to more of a journal and post more often. I obviously haven't posted more often. My last post was about Grandma Riding who we miss dearly. We spoke in church that day and just two weeks ago spoke in church again.

This year has been a pretty good year. I finished up teaching PE at Sun Valley Charter School in Phoenix in June but in May decided to accept a Summer Camp Coach job at Aspire Kids Sports Center in Chandler. They are a gymnastics place and the ASU men's team trains there. It has been a really cool experience. Most of the summer I worked with the boys that were 5-6 years old since I could handle their behavior and keep them under control. I had a lot of fun.

In July my director asked me to take over a level 1 girls gymnastics class which was an intimidating thing for me since I have never done gymnastics myself. After doing some training with other coaches and going to hands on training on Saturday, I started and I loved it and I felt like the girls did too.

Also in May I decided to accept a position at Kempton Phyiscal Therapy as a PT tech. I was receiving treatment for a strained hamstring and kind of had a job fall in my lap. I didn't start until August when another employee was getting ready to leave for PT school and he trained me for a week.

When August came I continued to coach gymnastics on Monday night and added a level 2 class. Teaching level 2 girls was A LOT more difficult for me but I managed. Yesterday was my last day teaching gymnastics though. I made my girls goodie bags for being so Awesome and I know they will be in good hands.

A few weeks after starting at Kempton PT, the front desk coordinator quit with no notice. So I had been doing a little training here and there but someone came over from the other clinic to train me to do her job. The hardest part has been playing catch up and making insurance phone calls. I still have a lot to learn but I'm really catching the hang of it now.

I am grateful to have a job but I ultimately would like to be in the back with the patients. I love to get to know people and interact with them. It's not the same up front. I also worry that I will forget the skills that I was learning back there.

I also took over cleaning the office a couple weeks ago so that is giving a little extra income but helps me take pride in the look of the office and be more grateful for the cleanliness. I usually go on Saturday nights to clean. Sometime in the near future my boss will be taking over ownership of the company and changing the name of the place and we are remodeling the space to be cut in half. It's exciting to be part of becoming a new company but I'm sure it will become very stressful.

Starting on Oct. 7th I have decided to start as the Boot Camp Instructor at Aspire Kids Sports Center from 5:20am-6:20am. I am super excited since Personal Training so far has been my favorite job ever! I'm excited to get back into it after almost 15 months of quitting TI Fitness. I'm not excited to get up super early though. I will go straight from the boot camp job to the PT clinic 4 days out of the week. Mondays and Wednesdays will be long days.

That's where I am at with my career status. Crazy good changes.

Grandma Riding

Today Anthon and I had to speak in church. It was a very busy week this week. Anthon started school again on Monday and I started back to work as well. Anthon is taking 5 classes plus a lab and a scholarship class he takes as well. He is working hard towards his Industrial Engineering degree. He got accepted into the 4 plus 1 program so in about 2 years he will have his bachelor and master's degree.
Monday I worked hard on fixing problems with our kids care program then Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday worked for 5 hours or so in the kids care program over the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders and also training a new hire. Friday I went back to my normal schedule of kids care for two hours in the morning, PE during the day and then an hour and a half after school for kids care. I did not miss getting up at 4:30 that's for sure!
We found out this morning that Grandma Riding passed away. Anthon went over there last night to help with getting her to bed after she became tired and weak while walking from the bathroom. She is such a sweet woman and she will be greatly missed here on Earth. It's so precious to think of her with her eternal companion now, Grandpa Riding. I never met Grandpa Riding but have never heard anything bad about him. Here are some of the special moments we have shared with her:

Here is Grandma Riding and I at my baby shower for Everett. She always let the family use her house to host events.
Here Everett is with Grandma Riding & Tex at church when he is almost 3 months old. They matched.
Here is Grandma Riding with us on our Wedding Day!
Here is my father is law David and Grandma Riding holding Everett when he is 3 weeks old.
Here is Grandma Riding hold Vinson when he was about a month and a half old. We have this hanging on the wall.

Grandma was always worried about other people. She told Anthon last night that she would try and make it to our talks today and that if she didn't we should come by and give her a little piece of it this afternoon. I'm sure she was listening from above. I'm grateful she is no longer in pain from her illnesses and that she is in a happier place. We love you Grandma!

Change Is Good!

Well it has been about a year since I have posted anything on my blog even though I have looked at it several times just to see what other people are up to on their blogs.

I feel the need to change what my blog is about and use it more as a journal. That's the thing to do right? Change is good.

So the new year just started, 2013. Crazy how time flies. We all have been super sick and I'm hoping that everyone in the house will be back to their healthy selves again soon. I got sick about 2 weeks ago. Everett woke up sick Christmas morning and had croup then last Sunday had a double ear infection. Anthon has been quite ill all week and hopefully will recover soon. Vinson has a cold but has really been the healthiest out of all of us which we are grateful for that.

Christmas was spent in Utah at my parents house in Midway, UT. All of my siblings were there and it was such a great time to have all of us together for a few days. We watched a few movies and just hung out a lot. Everett played in snow for the first time and he liked the snow but not that his hands were cold (he refused to wear gloves).

New Year's Eve was spent at home. I was the only one awake at midnight because I have been studying for my personal training examine that I need to take within the next 3 weeks. I haven't quite decided what all of my goals are going to be this year but I do have 2 off the top of my head:
1. Read the Book of Mormon in 365 days
2. Send birthday cards to all of my immediate family in 2013

We had a garage sale this weekend and that was fun and I got to spend time with Haylee and Shaeda so that was exciting. It went pretty well and I took everything else to DI today. I worked out tonight and burned 514 calories in a little over an hour. Now that I am starting to feel better, I need to get back to working out.

I go back to work on Monday and I have church at 9am so I better get to bed. Until next time.
